A mixed bag of Kashrus news.
§ Kosher Australia is proud to announce that Daneli’s, located at 328A Carlisle Street (next door to Glick’s Balaclava), Balaclava will open for business at 11am Monday August 31, 2009. The cuisine is American Deli style & fleishig. Your hosts are Daniel & Eli Grosberg.
Opening Sun-Thu 11am-9:30pm, Erev Shabbos/Yom Tov 8am until 2hr before candle lighting.
Motzei Shabbos/Yom Tov, 1 hour after havdalah until late. Daniel’s mobile is 0439 018 951.
§ Kosher Australia is saddened to advise the community that Sabra Israeli Cafe has closed its doors.
§ Simply Delicious Wasabi Peas available from Costco bear an unauthorised Kosher Australia symbol. We are working with both Costco and the importer to rectify the situation and ascertain if the product is indeed Kosher. We recommend setting aside existing product until further advice.
§ Grandessa Jam varieties sold at Aldi are now Kosher certified by Kosher Australia even without the Kosher Australia symbol.
§ Cottees, Monbulk & Roses Jams are no longer being produced in Australia. Pending further information, jars marked ‘Product of New Zealand’ are not recommended. Only jars marked ‘Product of Australia’ remain Kosher approved. Jars found in local retailers are now predominantly sourced from New Zealand.
§ The following Speedy Berry varieties sold by Costco are Kosher certified by Kosher Australia: Mango Diced IQF (Instant Quick Frozen), Mixed Berries IQF, Blackberries IQF, Blackcurrants IQF, Blueberries IQF, Mandarin IQF, Mango Cheeks IQF, Pineapple Diced IQF, Raspberry IQF, Redcurrant IQF, Strawberry IQF, & Tomato Semi-Dried IQF.
Banana Slices IQF & Passionfruit Pulp are NOT recommended pending further investigation.
We finalising the next Kosher Kontact (it runs for many pages with mostly new products) and hope to send it out this week. Thank you for your patience.

Purim Megillah reading
Purim Megillah reading at Merkos 120 Hotham Street S. Kilda East on PURIM DAY Tuesday the 10th of March at 10.00 am
Melbourne University - When: Tuesday 10th March Time: 1pm-2pm Where: Alice Hoy Building, room:210. So far we have 34 STUDENTS MARKED AS ATTENDING the megillah reading!!!!!!!!
Monash Clayton -an AWESOME PURIM PARTY will be happening from 12-2pm on Tuesday 10th of March, on the Menzies Lawn. Swing by for free food, mishloach manot, a Megilla reading, and lots of fun!

This Shabbos is the ninth of Kislev
This Shabbos is the ninth of Kislev, the birthday and yahrtzeit of Rabbi Dov Ber (known as the Mittler Rebbe), the second Rebbe of Chabad-Lubavitch.In 1816, Reb Dov Ber established a settlement of Chabad chasidim in Israel in the city of Hebron. He encouraged the chasidim already living in other parts of Israel to resettle in Hebron. In addition, his own daughter and son-in-law moved with their family from Russia to Hebron.But the history of Chabad-Lubavitch support of people, institutions and settlements in the Holy Land predates even 1816. For the first Chabad Rebbe, Rabbi Shneur Zalman, vigorously encouraged his followers to support the Jews in the Holy Land.Each and every Rebbe of Chabad, up to and including the present Rebbe, has unequivocally supported the Holy Land and spoken out boldly concerning anything that might have the slightest impact on the security of the Jews there.Our brethren in Israel know first-hand about the Rebbe's concern for them and their lives. During the Gulf War the Rebbe's emphatic message that "Israel is the safest place in the world for G-d is constantly watching it" was continuously played on the radio. The hundreds of Chabad Centers that dot the Israeli landscape were deluged with callers during the Gulf War asking, "What is the Rebbe saying now?"Without a doubt, and everyone can be sure of this, the Rebbe's policy has not changed one iota from that of his predecessors. Based on clear guidance from the Torah and Jewish law, the Rebbe reiterates: No action can be taken that might negatively affect the safety of the Jews of the Holy Land.In the merit of Rabbi Dov Ber, who established the first Chabad settlement in the Holy Land, may we be privileged to go together with Moshiach to the Holy Land, NOW.

This coming week, on 20 Cheshvan (Tuesday, Nov. 18),
we commemorate the birthday of Rabbi Sholom Dov Ber, the fifth Chabad Rebbe.
In the writings of the Previous Rebbe is an account of what the Mitteler Rebbe (the second Chabad Rebbe) said about the day on which a tzadik is born, and specifically about the day on which the leader of the generation - a "comprehensive soul" - is born:
"He [the Mitteler Rebbe] spoke of the festive meal which celebrates the occasion in the Garden of Eden. This spiritual repast consists of the sublime bliss which souls derive from the radiance of the Divine Presence, when they behold the essence of G-dliness. All the souls present take leave of the soul of the tzadik which is about to descend to the world, and offer it their blessings for success in realizing the ultimate purpose of its descent into a body.
"The nature of the festive meal which is held in honour of the comprehensive soul is quite different from that of an ordinary righteous person. Once the Heavenly Court has decreed that a particular comprehensive soul must descend to the world at a certain time and be born to specific parents, then some time before the body of the infant is formed, the Court assigns this soul a particular charge, and there it heads a heavenly academy. As it awaits its mission, this soul expounds the Torah to the souls of the righteous. With the approach of the time appointed for the soul to set out on its descent, the soul of Moses leads all the comprehensive souls who gather for the festive occasion. They give the embarking soul their blessings for success in its mission for the public welfare, and promise to aid it in its endeavours.
"The day destined for the birth of a tzadik (and, even more so, for the birth of a tzadik with a comprehensive soul) is thus a Yom Tov that is celebrated in all the supernal worlds...."
